Why does an expired card is shown on an active recurring plan?

You might be puzzled when you see an outdated card on an active recurring plan in the Dashboard, despite knowing the donor's card has been reissued. Why doesn't this information update?

The card data for recurring plans only updates under certain circumstances: if the details are amended in the Fundraise Up Dashboard, the donor portal, or directly in Stripe. But if a reissued card's new expiry date has not been updated in Stripe, Fundraise Up can't update it either! This scenario can happen when banks don't share updated card information with Stripe. As Fundraise Up relies on Stripe for card data auto-updates, we may display outdated information.

If this situation is concerning, you can ask the donor to update their card information via the Donor Portal, or you can make the change yourself through the Dashboard. Please be aware that these changes won't be instant in Stripe; the updates will only occur on Stripe’s end after the next installment is charged on the recurring plan.
