Accept BECS direct debit donations from New Zealand bank accounts

Organizations with a Stripe account in New Zealand can now accept BECS direct debit, the bank debit system used in New Zealand. Supporters can give one-time donations in NZD from their New Zealand bank account: they enter the account number at checkout and authorize the debit.

BECS direct debit appears among the payment options in Checkout Modal, on Campaign Pages, and in Gift Cart for one-time donations of 2 NZD or more. Your team can also take BECS direct debit donations in Virtual Terminal.

The debit goes through about 2 business days after the donation. Stripe emails the supporter to confirm their authorization and to notify them of the debit.

You can refund BECS direct debit donations in full, up to 90 days after the donation. Stripe handles disputes itself, with the supporter’s authorization and the debit notice as evidence.
