Tap to Donate: card readers on phones, and access to more than one organization

Two changes in the Fundraise Up app. A phone can now take payments through an external Stripe card reader, which reads the cards a phone on its own cannot. Separately, someone who works with more than one organization can now sign in to the app and move between those organizations.

Card readers on phones

Until now, a phone could read cards only through its built-in NFC, and card readers worked on tablets only. You can now connect a Stripe card reader to a phone as well.

The phone still accepts contactless taps. The reader adds what a tap cannot handle: depending on the reader, a supporter can insert a chip card or swipe a magnetic-stripe card.

Once you have connected the reader in the app, it will work in both Tap to Donate and Giving Station mode on that device. You can also move a reader between devices — disconnect it from one phone or tablet, then connect it on another — so one reader can serve several devices in turn.

Access to more than one organization

A single Fundraise Up account can now work across several organizations in the app — a group of organizations under one umbrella, or the organizations an agency works with. Sign in once, then change organizations from the top of the campaign list. Before this release, anyone who belonged to two or more organizations could not sign in to the app at all.

Each organization keeps its own campaigns and its own sign-in rules, so a switch can ask for a verification code, or for a sign-in through that organization's provider.

From a parent account, an Organization Administrator can also assign subaccount campaigns to an In-Person Giving Specialist. The specialist reaches them by changing to that subaccount in the app.
