PAD donations without bank account verification
Canadian PAD donations can now be completed in a single step, including donations an operator takes over the phone.
A PAD donation used to require proof that the supporter controls the bank account they entered. There were two ways to give it. The supporter signed in to their online bank during checkout, which confirmed the account on the spot. Or they typed in their account details, waited up to 5 business days for two small test deposits to land, and came back to confirm the amounts. Neither fits a phone call: a supporter reading their account number to an operator has no way to sign in mid-conversation, and nobody can hold the call for a week.
Fundraise Up can now skip that check for an organization. The supporter gives their bank details once and the donation is charged straight away, rather than sitting unpaid until the account is confirmed. For a recurring plan, the first installment is charged straight away as well, instead of waiting on a confirmation that may never come. This works in the Checkout Modal, on Campaign Pages, in Gift Cart, and in Virtual Terminal. The PAD mandate is unchanged and still required for every donation.
Without verification, nothing confirms the account details before the charge. An incorrect account number is caught only when Fundraise Up attempts the charge. The charge fails, and bank payment methods are not retried within the billing cycle, so the donation fails. If an operator mistypes an account number during a call, the organization learns about the failed donation after the call has ended.
PAD without bank account verification is not enabled by default. To find out whether it's available to your organization, contact us at support@fundraiseup.com.
