The first time you connect the integration, it will start in a paused state. You can see this status at the top of the page on the right.

Be sure to review the setup of your integrations. The Default fund in the General Settings is the only required field. Select your preferred option and save the changes.

To activate the integration for real-time donation synchronization, scroll to the page's bottom and click on the Enable automatic sync button.

We recommend that you check the other settings to make sure that records are being created in Bloomerang exactly the way you want them.

Standard records and fields

If automatic sync is enabled, all future donations made through Fundraise Up will create records in Bloomerang. While we offer many options for customization, we always create certain records and populate certain fields to ensure that the standards Bloomerang expects for data are met. Here's an overview:

Transactions

For each donation, depending on its type, the following records are created:

  • Donation: For single-time donations.
  • Recurring Donation Schedule: Details of the recurring donation plan.
  • Recurring Donation Payment: Each payment within a recurring plan.

For all categories above, we capture and fill in the amountdate, and created date. The amount is recorded in your account's default currency.

Fundraise Up will only sync successful live donations to Bloomerang. Failed or pending donations will not be sent to Bloomerang, regardless of the sync method used, whether automatic or historical.

Fundraise Up uses API-based integrations, which means that the system you're syncing data with (like Bloomerang) determines the rules for creating and editing records. Please be aware of these limitations before using the Bloomerang integration:

  • Bloomerang does not have a daily frequency option for recurring donation payments. Therefore, any daily recurring plans set up in Fundraise Up will be treated as one-time donations in Bloomerang without creating a recurring donation record.
  • Bloomerang cannot process donations set to recur every 4 weeks. Such donations will be adjusted to “Monthly” in Bloomerang.
  • Bloomerang's API does not allow us to change the dates of recurring donations. As a result, the “next payment” date in Bloomerang may not match the actual installment date set in Fundraise Up.

Constituents

To decide whether to create a new constituent or add donations to an existing one, we follow Bloomerang's merge criteria. This process involves checking for duplicates by matching the First Name and Last Name with at least one contact detail (address, email, or phone). If a match is found, the incoming data is merged with that of the existing constituent. If not, a new constituent is created.

It's important to note that Bloomerang does not use the Informal Name, Formal Name, Envelope Name, or Recognition Name to match constituents.

During the checkout process, we make sure to collect all available information for:

Email interest field

When creating a new constituent, Bloomerang requires the EmailInterestType field. Here's how it works:

  • If the Ask donors to subscribe to your mailing list option is not enabled in your Checkout, we don't send this field to Bloomerang. Instead, Bloomerang automatically sets the field to “Opted Out” for all new constituents.
  • If you enable this option in your Checkout:
    • When donors check the subscription box, EmailInterestType is set to “All.”
    • When donors leave the subscription box unchecked, EmailInterestType is set to ”Opted Out.”

Foreign Currencies

The integration supports Bloomerang accounts in foreign currencies. All transactions are posted to Bloomerang in the currency of your Bloomerang account.

Your Fundraise Up and Bloomerang account currencies must match.

The currency of your Fundraise Up account is determined by the base currency of your Stripe account. We determine this once your Stripe account is connected.

Example:

If both Fundraise Up and Bloomerang accounts are in CAD:

  • Donations in CAD are recorded in CAD.
  • Donations in USD (or any other currency) are recorded as the equivalent amount in CAD.

Review your options in General Settings

Besides the required Default Fund field in General Settings, you can explore additional optional settings.

Sync test data: Select this option only if you're using Fundraise Up's Test Mode and want the test transactions to show up in Bloomerang.

Update “Has been acknowledged” if thank you email has been sent by Fundraise Up: Mark this option to automatically tag a donation as "acknowledged" in Bloomerang once a thank you email is sent from Fundraise Up.

Create a constituent if a donation is made on behalf of an organization: When a donation is made on behalf of an organization and this checkbox is checked, we will look for or create a Constituent of type Organization when updating the customer's data. In this constituent, the FullName field will be the name of the organization as specified during the donation.

Default fund: Select a default fund in Bloomerang for Fundraise Up to use for donations when no specific fund is chosen. This is typically the Unrestricted fund.

Default campaign (optional): If not specified, donations won't automatically link to a campaign.

Default appeal (optional): If not specified, donations won't automatically link to an appeal.

Default Comment (optional): Use this to capture additional data from Fundraise Up that Bloomerang doesn't track. Examples include the donation link in Fundraise Up for easy reference, the supporter's IP geolocation, tribute information, original currency, etc. To add this data to the Bloomerang donation comment, use the tag button to include your data points.

Set additional defaults with mapping rules

You have the option to create additional mappings that allow you to send information such as Fundraise Up Campaigns, Custom Fields, Designations, or any Static Values you select into either Campaign or Fund fields in Bloomerang.

In addition, you can map information related to Donations, Checkout Questions, and Custom Fields from Fundraise Up to Bloomerang Custom Fields within categories related to either Transactions or Constituents.

Define your exceptions with special rules

If you need to do any special mapping you can do it in the Special Rules section.

For instance, you can map your Fundraise Up “Giving Tuesday” campaign directly to the Bloomerang “Special Giving Days” fund. All your available campaigns or funds in Bloomerang will be automatically listed for you to select.

Sync your historical data

After you chose to Enable automatic sync, all new donations will automatically transfer to your Bloomerang account and create records as needed. To import past donations and supporter data, or to update records after changing your mappings, you can use our manual sync feature. This allows you to add new records and update any previously synced ones.

Enable or pause automatic sync

This button displays options for automatic sync:

Once you click Start sync, the sync will begin. Refresh the page and scroll to the bottom to see the progress/results of this last manually started sync.

Donation types:

  • Unsynced live donations: Donations experiencing sync issues or never synced.
  • All live donations: Sync every live donation, no matter the sync status.
  • All test donations: Sync every test donation.
