Configure your Donor Portal
Learn how to adjust your Donor Portal settings, from its appearance to what supporters can manage.
Upon creating your Fundraise Up account, you'll find your Donor Portal ready to use. To make the most of it, we recommend configuring your portal before launching campaigns and collecting donations. Tailoring your portal to reflect your organization helps supporters feel comfortable and connected when managing their giving.
To configure your Donor Portal, go to Settings > Donor Portal in your Dashboard. Here, you'll have full control over your portal's web address, visual branding, and user permissions.
Personalize your Donor Portal URL
By default, your Donor Portal is assigned a unique web address on the secure donorsupport.co
domain, managed by Fundraise Up. You have two options to personalize this address:
- Use a Fundraise Up subdomain.
- Use your organization's own domain.
Use a Fundraise Up subdomain
Create your own address on donorsupport.co
domain. For example, if your organization is named Example Foundation, you can change the default address to examplefoundation.donorsupport.co.
To set this up:
- Go to Settings > Donor Portal.
- Locate URL settings section.
- Click Change domain.
- In the pop-up window, ensure Fundraise Up domain is selected (this is the default option).
URL settings for Fundraise Up domain
- Enter your preferred subdomain name in the Subdomain field.
- Click Save changes.
Use your organization's own domain
Connect your own web address to the Donor Portal for a more branded experience. For example, if your organization is named Example Foundation and your site is examplefoundation.org, you could set giving.examplefoundation.org as your Donor Portal address.
To set up a custom domain, follow these steps.
Step 1: Configure the custom domain in Donor Portal settings
- Go to Settings > Donor Portal in your Dashboard.
- Locate the URL settings section.
- Click Change domain.
- In the pop-up window, select Custom domain.
- Enter your chosen custom domain name. When using a custom domain, you must use a subdomain (such as giving.examplefoundation.org). You cannot use a main domain address (such as examplefoundation.org).
URL settings for custom domain
- Keep the pop-up window open. You can navigate away from the page but don't close it.
Step 2: Set up a CNAME record in your DNS settings
Ask your website administrator to create a CNAME connection between your custom domain and Fundraise Up. Here's what they need to do:
- Open the DNS settings for your domain. This is typically done through your domain provider's website.
- Create a new CNAME record. A CNAME (Canonical Name) record links your custom domain to Fundraise Up's domain.
- Point your custom subdomain to
domain.donorsupport.co
. The Name field should contain only your subdomain (such asgiving
), not the full domain (such asgiving.examplefoundation.org
).Use the following settings:
Name [your subdomain]
Type CNAME
Target domain.donorsupport.co
Step 3: Save the changes in the Dashboard
- Return to the URL settings pop-up window in your Dashboard.
- Click Save changes.
If the pop-up window was closed, re-enter your subdomain (such as giving.examplefoundation.org) in the input field and click Save changes.
Customize appearance of your Donor Portal
The Donor Portal can be customized to match your organization's visual identity. In the Settings > Donor Portal section, you can set up the following elements.
Browser icon
Add your organization's icon that appears in browser tabs and bookmarks. For example, your organization's logo or symbol.
- Minimum resolution: 32×32 px
- Recommended resolution: 64×64 px
Hero image
The hero image (the main image at the top of your Donor Portal) is what supporters see first when they access their profile. Consider using an image that represents your organization's mission or shows your impact.
- Minimum resolution: 930×408 px
- Recommended resolution: 1860×816 px
Homepage message
Create a message that appears under the hero image to welcome supporters and help them use the portal. Your message includes two parts: portal title and header text.
Hero image, portal title, and header text
Portal title
Add a personal touch to your Donor Portal by creating a greeting that appears at the top of the homepage message.
You can use personalization tags to address each supporter by their name or email. To add a tag, open the tag dropdown menu and select Supporter First Name, Supporter Last Name, or Supporter Email. For example, if you write Welcome, [[Supporter First Name]]!, a supporter named Alex will see Welcome, Alex! when they access their portal.
Donor Portal settings in Dashboard
Here are some other ideas for engaging portal titles:
- Thank you for your support, [[Supporter First Name]]!
- [[Supporter First Name]] [[Supporter Last Name]]'s giving profile
- Welcome to your donor profile
Header text
The header text appears below your portal title and provides space for longer, more detailed content. You can format this text to make it more engaging — add bold, italic, or underline styling, create lists, or include links to important resources. Personalization tags can also be used here, just like in the portal title.
This is an ideal place to reinforce your mission, share important announcements, or help supporters understand what they can do in their portal. Consider including contact information or links to frequently asked questions. Here is an example:
Your support helps us create positive change, [[Supporter First Name]]. In your portal, you can download tax receipts, manage your monthly giving, and see your impact. Questions? Contact us at support@example.org
Localization
If you have Localization enabled in Settings > Localization, you can provide both the portal title and header text in multiple languages. Use the Language dropdown menu at the top right corner of the homepage message settings, enter your translated text, and save changes.
Preview your Donor Portal
Test how your portal appears to supporters by using the preview option in Settings > Donor Portal. The preview shows a demo version of your portal that includes sample data, helping you see how your customizations look before supporters do.
You can access the preview in two ways:
- Click the View Donor Portal button in the Donor Portal settings.

- Visit

Control what supporters can do in Donor Portal
Configure which actions supporters can take in their Donor Portal. These settings help you balance convenient self-service options with your organization's needs for engagement and retention.
In the Settings section of Settings > Donor Portal, you'll find options that control how supporters can manage their recurring donations, customize settings to help retain supporters, and decide what information they can access.
Settings for supporters actions in Donor Portal
Recurring plans changes
When supporters want to make changes to their recurring plans, they can do it in their Donor Portal. You control which options are available to them. By default, Fundraise Up configures these settings to help retain donors by providing alternatives to cancellation.
Recurring donation cancellation
Choose how supporters can end their recurring plans:
- Supporter can cancel in Donor Portal (after retention attempts). This reduces your support team's workload since supporters can manage their giving independently. Before they can cancel, supporters see retention options in this order:
- An option to reduce their donation amount.
- An option to pause their donations.
- A final cancellation confirmation.
- Supporter required to contact organization or submit feedback form. This will slow down the cancellation process and require additional effort from the supporter. You can add custom instructions that appear when supporters try to cancel, such as: “We are sorry to see you go. Please reach out to us to cancel your recurring donation. For quickest assistance, please have the details of your recurring donation ready when you contact us.”
Reduce recurring donation amount
Choose how supporters can change their donation amounts:
- Supporter can reduce amount in Donor Portal. This lets supporters adjust their donation amount without contacting your organization. They maintain their connection with your organization, even if at a reduced amount.
- Supporter is required to contact the organization or submit a feedback form. This creates an opportunity for your team to understand why supporters want to reduce their giving and possibly suggest alternatives. You can add custom instructions such as: “We respect your needs. To decrease the donation amount, please contact us for the next steps.”
Pause options
Control whether supporters can temporarily stop their recurring donations instead of canceling them:
- Supporter can pause recurring gifts (skip installments). This gives supporters an alternative to canceling their donations. When enabled, they can pause for 1 month, 3 months, or choose a custom duration up to 12 months. Their donations automatically resume at the original amount after the pause period ends.
Profile and donation history
Control what information supporters can view and edit in their Donor Portal.
- Supporter can edit their personal information. This lets supporters update their name, email address, mailing address, and phone number without contacting your organization. When disabled, supporters must reach out to your team for any profile changes.
- Show donation history in the Donor Portal. This determines whether supporters see their donation history on the main page of their portal. When disabled, this information is hidden. By default, this information is shown to supporters.
Note that supporters can still see transaction history for their recurring plans within each plan's details.
Why might you choose to disable donation history?
This is an optional setting that can help avoid confusion for supporters who have donated both online and offline, as they won't see their offline donations in the Donor Portal. Disabling donation history may help prevent disappointment for supporters expecting to see their full donation history. However, if offline donations are not a concern, you may prefer to leave donation history enabled.
Option 1: Use a specific campaign
To set a specific campaign for the Donate button:
- Go to Settings > Campaigns
- In the Archived campaign behavior section, select Redirect the supporter to another campaign's Checkout Modal/Campaign Page.
- Choose your campaign from the dropdown list.
- Click Save changes.
Option 2: Let the system choose automatically
If you don't select a specific campaign, the system uses your most active campaign from the past 7 days. All supporters see this same campaign when they click the Donate button.
The system monitors donation patterns and automatically updates the selection when a different campaign becomes more active. This ensures supporters always see your most engaging campaign when they want to give again.
Access supporter profiles
For troubleshooting, users with Organization Administrator, Campaign Administrator, and Support Specialist roles can view specific supporter portals. From any supporter's page in the Dashboard, click Open Donor Portal to see their portal exactly as they would see it.
While you'll have reduced functionality compared to supporters, such as being unable to create new donations or increase existing ones, this view helps you understand their experience.
