Donor Portal supporter guide template
A supporter-facing guide to the Donor Portal that your organization can copy, adapt, and share through your own channels.
Your supporters can manage their donations entirely on their own through the Donor Portal — update a payment method, pause or cancel a recurring plan, download a tax receipt, change their contact details. When they need help doing any of this, they'll come to you. This page gives you a ready-made guide written for supporters. It covers all the common tasks in plain language, with no mention of Fundraise Up.
Take the article template, fill in your organization's name, portal URL, and support contact, then remove any sections that describe actions you've turned off in your Donor Portal settings. Share it however makes sense for your organization — a page on your website, an article in your help center, a response template for your support team.
Before you share the article, go through it and:
- Replace every
[Organization Name]with your organization's name. - Replace
[Donor Portal URL]with your portal address — find it in your Dashboard under Settings > Donor Portal > URL settings. - Replace
[support email/phone]with your contact details. - Review each section against your Donor Portal settings (Settings > Donor Portal > Settings in your Dashboard). If you've turned off any actions in your portal settings — for example, the ability for supporters to cancel recurring plans — update those sections with instructions to contact you instead.
Article template
After you donate, [Organization Name] gives you access to a personal online space called the Donor Portal. There you can:
- See your donation history
- Manage your recurring plans
- Download tax receipts
- Update your contact details
How to sign in
The Donor Portal has no passwords. Each time you want to sign in, you receive a secure link by email — click the link to open your portal. The link is private to you. There's no password to remember or lose, and nothing to set up in advance.
There are two ways to get that link:
- After you donate:
[Organization Name]sends you a thank-you email after each donation. Click Go to Donor Portal at the bottom of that email. - At any other time:
- Go to
[Donor Portal URL]. - Enter the email address you used when you donated.
- Check your inbox for a sign-in link from
[Organization Name]and click it.
- Go to
Sign-in links expire after 24 hours. If yours has expired, go back to [Donor Portal URL] and enter your email again to get a new one.
Manage a recurring plan
Your active recurring plans appear on the main page of your portal. Each plan shows the donation amount and next payment date. To open a plan and make changes, click View details on the plan you want to update.
Change your donation amount
- In the Details section, click Edit.
- Enter a new amount in the Donation amount field.
- Click Save changes.
Change how often you donate
- In the Details section, click Edit.
- Click Frequency and pick how often you want to donate.
- Click Save changes.
Change your next payment date
- In the Details section, click Edit.
- Click Next installment scheduled for and pick a new date.
- Click Save changes.
Update your payment method
- In the Details section, click Edit.
- Click Payment method and pick a saved one or enter new card details.
- Click Save changes.
Take a break from donating
- Scroll down and click Cancel recurring donation.
- Before you cancel, you'll see an option to skip payments instead — for 1 month, 3 months, or a custom period of up to 12 months. Your donation resumes automatically after the skip ends.
- If you'd still like to cancel, click Just cancel my donation and confirm.
If the portal asks you to contact [Organization Name] rather than cancel directly, reach out at [support email/phone].
Update your contact information
- On a computer, click your name on the menu on the left side of the screen. On a phone or tablet, tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner, then tap your name.
- Click Edit.
- Update your name, email address, or other personal details.
- If you have recurring donations, you'll see an Apply changes to all my recurring plans checkbox. The box is already checked. Leave it as is if you want the new details to apply to all your recurring donations. To change just this profile and not your plans, click the box to remove the check.
- Click Save changes.
If you update your email address, you'll be asked whether to use it for future receipts as well. The answer is already set to yes — keep it that way, or click to change it if you'd rather receive receipts at your old address.
If there's no Edit option on your profile page, contact [Organization Name] at [support email/phone] to update your details.
Download your tax receipts
- On a computer, click Receipts on the menu on the left side of the screen. On a phone or tablet, tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner, then tap Receipts.
- Find the receipt you need.
- Click the download icon (a downward arrow) next to it.
To download all receipts for a given year at once, click Download all receipts and select the year.
