Understanding higher American Express fees
When processing donations through Stripe, you may notice higher fees for American Express transactions compared to other credit cards. This is standard across the industry and not specific to Fundraise Up.
Why American Express fees are higher
- Premium Brand Positioning: Amex offers exclusive benefits, requiring higher fees to merchants.
- Affluent Cardholder Base: Amex cardholders often have higher spending power, leading to increased costs.
- Additional Merchant Services: Amex provides extra support services, contributing to higher fees.
Fundraise Up's Role
Fundraise Up does not control or add to these fees. We simply pass through the fees negotiated between Stripe and the credit card companies. The higher Amex fees are applied without any markup from Fundraise Up.
