Bank debits FAQ
Bank debit settlement times
Bank debit payments take several business days to settle. Stripe defines settlement time as the period between payment submission and the funds becoming available in your Stripe balance. Your Stripe payout schedule determines when those funds are sent to your organization’s bank account.
Stripe lists these standard settlement times:
- ACH US Direct Debit: 4 business days. Eligible accounts can enable 2‑day settlement. If the bank account requires manual verification, settlement begins after verification is complete and the payment is submitted.
- Pre-authorized debit (PAD) in Canada: 5 business days.
- SEPA Direct Debit: 6 business days.
- Australian BECS Direct Debit: 2 business days.
- Bacs Direct Debit: 4 business days when a mandate is already active. Funds can take up to 7 business days to become available when Stripe must collect a new mandate.
Payments created after the applicable cutoff time or on a non-business day may be submitted on the next business day.
Bank debit availability in Checkout
A bank debit method appears in Checkout only when it is enabled and the donation meets the method’s regional, currency, and amount requirements.
ACH US Direct Debit requirements
The Bank transfer button appears for ACH US Direct Debit when:
- ACH US Direct Debit is enabled.
- The donation currency is USD.
Cancel an ACH US Direct Debit donation
You can cancel an ACH US Direct Debit donation while it is awaiting manual bank account verification through microdeposits. At this stage, Stripe has not started processing the payment.
After the supporter verifies the bank account and Stripe begins processing the payment, you can no longer cancel the donation. Wait for the donation to succeed, then issue a refund if needed.
