Understanding decline codes for donations

There are hundreds of reasons why a donors credit card may be blocked or a donation fail. While we don't know the exact reason, we typically will be able to communicate a reason to the donor.

We are only able to pass along the message that we receive from the bank or payment processor.

Some reasons given are very vague (example: Do Not Honor).

Some are very specific (example: Insufficient Funds).

The level of detail depends on the bank.

Sometimes, waiting a few hours and trying again can resolve the issue. Otherwise, the card holder would be required to contact their card issuer or bank.
