Handling blank label fields in Fundraise Up Elements
When creating Elements in Fundraise Up, such as Donate Buttons or Donation Forms, you can customize the label fields that display text to visitors. It's important to know how Fundraise Up handles blank or empty label fields.
Default behavior of label fields
In Fundraise Up, label fields for Elements cannot be left blank or empty. If you attempt to save an Element with an empty label field, the following behavior will occur:
- Default value applied: If there is a default value specified for the label field, that value will be automatically applied when the field is left blank.
- Required fields: Some label fields may be considered required, meaning they must have a value in order for the Element to function properly. In such cases, leaving the field blank will prevent you from saving the Element until a value is provided.
Workaround: using a blank space
If you want to give the appearance of a blank label field without using the default value, you can use a workaround by entering a blank space instead of leaving the field empty. Here's how to do it:
- Open the Element editor: Navigate to the Element you want to modify in the Fundraise Up dashboard and open the Element editor.
- Locate the label field: Find the label field that you want to appear blank.
- Enter a blank space: Instead of leaving the field empty, enter a single space character in the field. You can do this by pressing the spacebar once.
- Save the Element: After entering the blank space, save the Element. The label field will now appear empty to visitors, but technically it contains a blank space character.
Best practices and considerations
While the blank space workaround allows you to give the appearance of a blank label field, it's important to consider the following best practices and considerations:
- Clarity and user experience: Leaving label fields blank may impact the clarity and usability of your Elements. Make sure that the absence of a label doesn't confuse or mislead visitors.
- Accessibility: Blank labels may not be accessible to visitors using assistive technologies.
