Converting foreign currency donations in PayPal

By default, PayPal will create separate balances for donations received in currencies other than your account’s default currency. If you frequently receive international donations as part of foreign currency fundraising, we recommend configuring your PayPal account to automatically handle these transactions.

The following steps will guide you through configuring the settlement behavior in PayPal.

Prerequisites

You must have administrative-level access to your PayPal Business account.

Steps

  1. Log in to PayPal
  2. Click the profile icon in the top-right corner, then select Account Settings
  3. In the left sidebar, select Payment preferences
  4. In the Payment preferences section, find Block payments, then click Update
  5. Under For payments sent to me in a currency other than USD which is my primary account currency, select Accept all payments and convert all to USD
We recommend selecting Accept all payments and convert all to USD. This reduces the number of steps required to accept international currency donations. PayPal may apply a conversion fee.

Your selection is automatically saved, and PayPal will use the new setting to process future donations.
