Troubleshooting: Bacs Direct Debit Not Visible in Virtual Terminal

Bacs Direct Debit is a popular payment method for recurring donations in the UK. If you have enabled Bacs Direct Debit for your Fundraise Up account but cannot see it as an option in the Virtual Terminal, follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Step 1: Confirm Virtual Terminal Settings

  1. Navigate to your Fundraise Up account settings.
  2. Go to the "Virtual Terminal" section.
  3. Ensure that the "Allow direct debits to be set up in the Virtual Terminal" option is checked.

If direct debits are not enabled for your Virtual Terminal, you won't be able to see Bacs Direct Debit as a payment option. Make sure to save any changes made in the settings.

Step 2: Verify Donation Type

Bacs Direct Debit is only available for recurring donations. When processing a donation through the Virtual Terminal, follow these steps:

  1. Select the "Recurring" donation type.
  2. Choose the appropriate recurring frequency (e.g., monthly, quarterly, annually).

If you have selected a one-time donation type, Bacs Direct Debit will not appear as a payment option.

Step 3: Check Campaign Settings

For Bacs Direct Debit to be available in the Virtual Terminal, the selected campaign must request the donor's mailing address during checkout. To check and adjust campaign settings:

  1. Go to the "Campaigns" section in your Fundraise Up account.
  2. Select the specific campaign you are processing the donation for.
  3. In the Supporter settings, ensure that the "Ask for the mailing address" option is enabled.

Bacs Direct Debit requires the donor's mailing address for verification purposes. If the campaign doesn't collect the mailing address, Bacs Direct Debit will not be shown as a payment method in the Virtual Terminal.
