Troubleshooting: Bacs Direct Debit availability in the Virtual Terminal

Bacs Direct Debit is available in the Virtual Terminal only for recurring donations and requires specific account and campaign settings. Follow the steps below to confirm that everything is configured correctly.

Step 1: Confirm Virtual Terminal Settings

  1. Go to Settings → Virtual Terminal.
  2. Scroll to the Payment methods section.
  3. Enable Allow direct debits to be set up in the Virtual Terminal.
  4. Save changes.

If this option is disabled, Bacs Direct Debit will not appear as a payment method in the Virtual Terminal.

Step 2: Verify Donation Type

Bacs Direct Debit is only available for recurring donations. When processing a donation through the Virtual Terminal, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Virtual Terminal.
  2. Select Recurring as the donation type.
  3. Choose a recurring frequency (e.g., monthly, quarterly, annually).

Bacs Direct Debit will not be displayed as a payment option if a one-time frequency is selected.

Step 3: Check Campaign Settings

Bacs Direct Debit requires the supporter’s mailing address to be collected during checkout. To check and adjust campaign settings:

  1. Go to Campaigns.
  2. Open the campaign used in the Virtual Terminal.
  3. Open the campaign Supporter settings.
  4. Enable Ask for the mailing address.
  5. Save changes.

If the campaign does not request a mailing address, Bacs Direct Debit will not be available in the Virtual Terminal for that campaign.
