Deleting Designations in Fundraise Up

Designations in Fundraise Up allow you to categorize donations and provide clarity to supporters about how their contributions will be used. You can create, search, and manage designations from the Designations page in your dashboard, but there are certain limitations when it comes to deleting them.

How to delete a designation

  1. Open the Fundraise Up Dashboard > Designations.
  2. Find the designation you want to remove from the list.
  3. Click the trash bin icon on the right side of the designation. It’s not clickable if designation belongs to parent account.
  4. In the confirmation modal, click Delete designation.

If the designation meets all removal requirements, it will be deleted immediately.

If not, you’ll see an “Unable to remove designation” message with a list of possible reasons the deletion is blocked. The message will include links to check related campaigns, donations, recurring plans, or account settings.

Remove the designation wherever it’s still in use, then try deleting it again.

When a designation cannot be deleted

Some designations can’t be deleted until all connections are removed. If deletion is blocked, the dashboard will show a list of potential reasons.

A designation cannot be deleted if:

  1. It is set as your account’s default designation

You’ll need to change the default designation of the account where it’s used.

  2. It’s assigned to one or more campaigns

Remove the designation from any campaign where it’s currently used.

  3. It’s still linked to donations or recurring plans

Designations must be unlinked from all one-time and recurring donations (including test donations).

  4. Designation of the parent account

The designations of the parent accounts can be used in subaccounts, but they cannot be edited or removed from subaccount. Please try to delete it from parent account.

Alternative to deletion: rename and reuse

If a designation is locked due to donation activity, consider renaming it instead. This allows you to repurpose the designation for future use while preserving donation history and reporting accuracy.
