Understanding payout amounts in Fundraise Up
You may have noticed that the payout amount for a donation sometimes differs from what you might expect based on the donation amount and fees. Here's why this happens and how payout amounts are calculated:
- Payout amount calculation The payout amount is equal to the net sum reported by the payment processor. This amount already accounts for all applicable fees, including Fundraise Up's platform fee.
- Fee coverage option When donors choose to cover fees, we estimate the fee amount. The actual fees may vary slightly due to different payment methods (e.g., American Express typically has higher fees than Mastercard or Visa).
- Refund scenario In case of a refund the payout amount will be negative as payment processors do not return their fees for the transaction.
- Dispute scenario If a dispute is lost, the payout amount will be negative, as it includes payment processor’s dispute and transaction fees.
- Additional fees
Payment processors might add additional fees like taxes, currency conversion fees, and fees for specific feature usage. It depends on many factors, including the features you have enabled on the payment processor’s side, your account’s country setting, and others.
