What happens if one of the installments from a recurring plan is disputed?
When a supporter disputes an installment from their recurring plan and the dispute is resolved in the supporter's favor, certain actions take place depending on the disputed payment's position in the payment sequence.
Dispute resolution outcomes
- The disputed installment amount is refunded to the supporter
- If the disputed donation was the last successful installment in the recurring plan, the plan is automatically canceled to prevent further disputes
- All successfully processed installments made before and after the disputed donation remain with the organization
Important notes
Dispute resolution typically takes several weeks or months to complete. During this period, the recurring plan remains active unless:
- The disputed installment was the latest donation in the sequence
- The organization cancels the plan
- The supporter cancels the plan
Renewing a canceled recurring plan
If a recurring plan is canceled due to a disputed installment, it can be renewed by either the organization or the supporter. For more information on the process, refer to our guide on Reactivating Recurring Plans.
