Send events to Google Ads using Google Tag Manager

You can use data sent from Fundraise Up to Google Tag Manager to surface conversion data in Google Ads. This is accomplished by mapping variables from the data layer to Google Ads properties.

This article will guide you through sending conversion data to Google Ads when a donation is completed using Checkout.

Prerequisites

  • Google Tag Manager must be installed on your website
  • Fundraise Up’s trigger and variables template should be added to your Google Tag Manager implementation
  • You must have access to your organization’s Google Tag Manager account
  • You must have access to your organization’s Google Ads account

Instructions

  1. In Google Tag Manager, select the container where you want to add the Google Ads tag
  2. Select the Tags menu option in the sidebar
  3. Select New to create a new tag
  4. Select Tag Configuration
  5. Select the Google Ads Conversion Tracking tag
  6. In the configuration settings, input the Conversion ID and Conversion Label values for the tag. These values are obtained for Google Ads.
  7. Set Conversion value to {{Fundraise Up Donation Amount}}. This value can be selected from the container’s variables by selecting the add variable button.
  8. Set Transaction ID to {{Fundraise Up Donation ID}}. This value can be selected from the container’s variables by selecting the add variable button.
  9. Set Currency Code to {{Fundraise Up Donation Currency}}. This value can be selected from the container’s variables by selecting the add variable button.
  10. Select the Triggering container to configure a trigger that will fire the tag
  11. Select Fundraise Up Donation Complete
  12. Select the Save button to save your configuration
  13. Publish the changes to your container to complete the setup

Google Tag Manager will now send conversion data to Google Ads when a donation is completed using Checkout.
