How to cancel a Recurring Plan

A recurring donation plan can be managed and canceled by organization users through the Dashboard or by supporters directly through the Donor Portal.

Prerequisites

Before starting the cancellation process, ensure the following conditions are met:

  • Plan Status: The Cancel Recurring button is only available for plans with an Active status. Plans marked as Failed have already been stopped by the system.
  • Record Type: Verify that you have opened the Recurring plan page. If you are viewing a specific Donation record instead, the cancellation button will not be visible.
  • Data View: If you are attempting to cancel a test plan, click your name in the bottom-left corner of the Dashboard and enable the Test data toggle.

How to cancel a Recurring Plan from the Dashboard

To cancel a plan, first locate the specific record and then follow the cancellation steps.

1. Locate the recurring plan

There are three primary ways to find a specific recurring plan record:

Option 1: Use the global search bar

  1. Click the Search field in the sidebar menu or press the "/" key.
  2. Enter the supporter’s name, email, or Recurring Plan ID.
  3. Select the appropriate plan from the search results.

Option 2: Use the Recurring page filters

  1. Open the Recurring page in the sidebar menu.
  2. Use filters such as Supporter, Amount, or Date to narrow the list.
  3. Select the specific recurring plan from the filtered results.

Option 3: Use internal record links

  1. Navigate to the Supporters page or a specific Donations record.
  2. On a Supporter page, scroll to Recurring plans and click the plan row.
  3. On a Donation page, scroll to the Recurring plan section and click the Recurring plan ID.

2. Process the cancellation

Once the specific recurring plan page is open, the cancellation can be completed in a few clicks:

  1. Locate the Cancel Recurring button in the top right corner.
  2. Click the button to open the cancellation menu.
  3. Select a cancellation reason from the dropdown list.
  4. Click the Cancel Recurring button to confirm.

After confirmation, all future installments are stopped immediately. The supporter will not be charged again for this plan, though this action does not affect or refund any previously processed donations.

How to cancel a Recurring Plan from the Donor Portal

Supporters have the flexibility to manage their own plans independently. The specific cancellation behavior they encounter depends on your organization's unique settings.

Accessing the Donor Portal

Supporters can reach their plan management page using two standard methods:

  • Recurring Donation Emails: Every initial and installment email contains a Go to Donor Portal button at the bottom.
  • Direct URL: Supporters can log in using your organization's unique Donor Portal URL, which is found in your Dashboard under Settings > Donor Portal.

Detailed instructions on the login process are available in the How can supporters access their Donor Portal? guide.

Cancellation steps

The steps within the portal are designed for a seamless user experience:

  1. Navigate to the specific recurring plan page within the portal.
  2. Locate the Cancel Recurring Plan button at the bottom of the page.
  3. Click the button and follow the prompts to confirm the choice.

Once the process is finished, the plan status updates immediately in the Dashboard and the supporter receives an automated confirmation email for their records.

An organization user can cancel a recurring donation plan via the Fundraise Up dashboard. Alternatively, the supporter can also do so through the Donor Portal.
