Smart suggested amounts in Campaign Pages

An updated AI model for suggested amounts increased average gift size by 4.2%.

What we tested

Suggested amounts are the donation options shown when a donor lands in Checkout, and they play a major role in shaping giving behavior. Fundraise Up uses AI to generate these amounts in real time, tailoring the ask to each donor based on context, behavior, and historical data.

To continue improving, we regularly test new AI models against our current production version. In 2024 alone, we ran seven similar experiments across features like Checkout Modal, Campaign Pages, and Donation Form Element.

This particular experiment tested a new AI model for suggested amounts specifically within Campaign Pages.

Hypothesis

If the new AI model personalizes donation amounts more effectively, the average donation amount with lifetime value will increase by 2% without negatively affecting the conversion rate, because the predicted options will better match donor intent without adding friction.

Key results

The new model delivered consistent improvements without reducing conversion rates, especially for recurring donations.

  • +4.2% increase in average donation amount with lifetime value

We evaluate success on two fronts: the immediate average donation amount and the projected lifetime value (LTV) of each donor, ensuring our optimizations drive both short-term revenue and long-term growth.

This result passed the standard threshold for statistical significance (p-value of 0.019), giving us over 98% confidence in the outcome.

Segment insights

The test revealed specific segments that showed particularly strong increases in average donation amounts. Here's the breakdown.

By device

  • Mobile devices saw the most significant improvement, with desktop and tablet also showing substantial gains

By OS

  • Mac OS users showed the strongest improvement, followed by Android and iOS

By country

  • The U.K., U.S., and Canada showed significant gains in average donation amounts

Additional insights

In some cases, increasing the suggested amount leads to a slight decrease in cost coverage conversion. But in this test, that didn’t happen. Despite larger gifts, donors continued to cover transaction fees at the same rate, translating to even more revenue for nonprofits.

Conclusion

When the ask feels right, donors give more. This new AI model proves that smarter suggested amounts lead to higher revenue without adding steps or effort for your team. It’s personalization that pays off.
