Checkout donation form FAQ
In this article, "checkout" refers to both our Checkout Modal and Campaign Page experiences - two distinct but complementary ways to process donations. The Checkout Modal appears as an overlay on your existing website, while Campaign Pages are standalone, dedicated donation pages. Both interfaces share the same underlying functionality and features, providing a consistent experience for supporters regardless of which method they encounter.
1. Can I control currency options in the checkout?
Yes, you can control whether supporters can change the donation currency during checkout. You also have the option to enable automatic currency detection based on geolocation. Configure these settings in the campaign settings. It is not possible to restrict currency options to a specific subset of currencies.
2. How is the fee coverage amount calculated?
The system uses an algorithm that considers multiple factors to calculate the fee coverage amount. The calculated amount is not precise and does not equal the actual transaction costs because the fee coverage is calculated before the supporter chooses the payment method. Learn more in the article on fee coverage and tax deductibility.
3. Which payment methods can I enable in the checkout?
All available money-based payment methods are automatically enabled. To add a specific method, simply activate it in your organization's Payment methods settings. The availability of most payment options during the donation process is dynamic and adapts in real-time.
4. Why do payment methods appear differently for different supporters?
Payment method visibility varies based on several factors:
- Device compatibility: Apple Pay, for example, only appears on Apple devices.
- Geographical restrictions: Some payment methods are country-specific. For example, iDEAL is specific to the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg.
- Currency limitations: Certain payment methods are restricted to specific currencies. For instance, the ACH payment option is available exclusively for donations made in USD.
- Browser limitations: Certain payment methods may not work in all browsers. For example, in-app browsers have limited payment method availability.
5. Can I add more than 2 donation frequencies to the checkout?
You can offer a maximum of two donation frequencies for each campaign. If you want supporters to have more options, consider creating multiple campaigns, each with two different frequencies.
6. Can supporters make anonymous donations?
Yes, you can offer an anonymous donation option in the checkout. For more information, read the article on handling anonymous donations.
7. How does language localization work during checkout?
The entire checkout interface, including product labels, can be automatically translated into the supporter's language. You can customize content like titles and messages for each language. Default translations are provided. Specific localization can be forced through a URL pattern, URL parameter, or the user's browser language settings.
8. Can I change the colors in the checkout?
No, the checkout interface does not allow customization of colors or visual styling.
9. Can I add videos to the checkout?
The checkout does not currently support video embedding. This design choice helps maintain fast loading times and keeps the donation process streamlined. Instead of videos, use a compelling image or concise text to convey your message within the checkout. Consider placing videos on your main website or campaign landing page to engage supporters before they begin the donation process.
10. The text for Terms & Conditions and Mailing List is getting cut off. How can I show the full message?
The text for these fields can be cut off due to length. Keep the text concise while ensuring it meets all legal and communication requirements. If more detailed information is needed, consider linking to a full version of the terms on your website.
11. Can I ensure supporters answer Questions during checkout?
While Questions can be set as mandatory, this only requires supporters to complete them to advance to the next checkout page. Since the questions page appears after the transaction is initiated, supporters can still exit by closing the Checkout Modal or leaving the page entirely.
