FAQ
Can I show donors their home currency by default?
Yes. As part of Fundraise Up’s online fundraising platform, donation amounts are displayed in a donor’s local currency by default using geolocation. No manual configuration required.
Can I accept donations in currencies other than USD?
Yes, donors can give using 135 available currencies, and you can accept payouts in your nonprofit’s local currency.
Do you charge different rates for different payment methods?
Processing rates vary by payment method. Cryptocurrency, for example, carries higher processing costs than cards, and Fundraise Up subsidizes these costs where possible. But the impact on your net funds raised is typically minimal: even when a donor gives using a payment method with a higher processing cost, there’s still a 92% chance that they will opt to cover those costs for your nonprofit.
Can donors change payment methods for recurring plans?
Yes. Through Donor Portal, a self-service dashboard built into Fundraise Up, donors can switch payment methods, modify their recurring giving schedule, and make other plan changes on their own without contacting your organization. It reduces the support burden on your team while keeping donors in control of their online fundraising relationship with you.
What currency are my payouts in?
Your payouts are delivered in the currency configured in your nonprofit’s Stripe account. You can view the 30+ countries supported for payouts at stripe.com/partners/fundraise-up
What payment methods does Fundraise Up support?
Fundraise Up supports all major global payment methods, including credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB), Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, ACH, BACS (UK Direct Debit), BECS (Australia), SEPA (EU), PADs (Canada), iDEAL (Netherlands), and cryptocurrency. Fundraise Up surfaces country-specific payment options automatically based on each donor’s location. No manual configuration needed.
Does Fundraise Up support Apple Pay and Google Pay?
Yes. Fundraise Up supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal at checkout, all completable in one tap. These digital wallets are especially important for mobile giving: donors don’t have to enter card details manually, which reduces drop-off at the most common point of mobile abandonment.
Can our nonprofit accept cryptocurrency donations?
Yes. Fundraise Up accepts cryptocurrency donations natively. Donors can give in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other major cryptocurrencies as easily as they would with a credit card, and your nonprofit receives the donation in your local fiat currency. Crypto donors typically give larger amounts than cash donors and are an underserved segment for most nonprofits.
How does PayPal work on Fundraise Up?
Donors can give using their PayPal account in one click. PayPal is consistently one of the most-selected payment methods when available, with approximately 20% of donors choosing it, and activating it is associated with a roughly 7% lift in overall online fundraising conversion. PayPal donations flow through Stripe the same way all other payment methods do, with no separate reconciliation required.
Does Fundraise Up support ACH or direct debit donations?
Yes. Fundraise Up supports ACH for U.S. donors, BACS for UK donors, BECS for Australian donors, SEPA for EU donors, and PADs for Canadian donors, all surfaced automatically based on the donor’s location. Bank-transfer methods typically carry lower processing costs than card payments and attract higher average gift amounts, making them a meaningful addition to any nonprofit’s online fundraising platform strategy.
Can donors cover the transaction fee at checkout?
Yes. Fundraise Up gives donors the option to cover the platform’s transaction fee at checkout, and the vast majority do. Across all customers, 92% of donors choose to cover the transaction fee, and that number is often higher depending on the mission. UNICEF USA, for example, sees 82% of donors cover it. For any nonprofit fundraising software handling high donation volumes, this feature meaningfully reduces the net cost of fundraising.
