Benefits

Offer physical or digital gifts to supporters based on their donation amounts.

Benefits are thank-you gifts you provide in recognition of donations. They help thank , motivate higher giving, and make your campaigns more engaging.

What are benefits

A benefit is any item your provides to a supporter in recognition of their donation. This can be:

  • Physical benefits — items like T-shirts, mugs, or other branded merchandise.
  • Digital benefits — items like certificates, event passes, or downloadable content.

Every benefit has a Fair Market Value (FMV) — the price it would sell for on the open market. This value matters for compliance. In places where donations are tax-deductible, supporters can use the FMV shown on their receipt to calculate the deductible portion when filing taxes. For example, if a supporter gives $100 and receives a mug with an FMV of $20, they can determine that $80 may be tax-deductible based on the FMV information provided.

Fundraise Up doesn't handle benefit fulfillment or delivery. Organizations are responsible for sending physical items to supporters and giving them access to digital benefits.

Benefits can include option like size, color, or style. A T-shirt benefit might offer sizes from S to XL, while a mug set might include different designs.

When you create options, one becomes the default selection. Supporters can change their choice during checkout.

Each option can have its own image and FMV.

Why use benefits

Benefits help you increase donation amounts and supporter engagement in several ways:

  • Encourage larger donations. Supporters may raise their donation to qualify for a desired benefit. The system automatically prompts the minimum needed.
  • Offer real rewards. Tangible benefits can motivate people who might not otherwise donate.
  • Build lasting connections. Physical benefits serve as ongoing reminders of a supporter’s contribution.
  • Identify engagement levels. Benefit tiers help you see which supporters are most committed.

How benefits work

All benefits are added and managed in your organization’s Benefits catalog. Then they’re added to specific campaigns with custom eligibility criteria.

Benefits can only be offered on , and cannot be used in campaigns that have multiple designations enabled.

Offering benefits involves two steps.

Step 1. Set up your Benefits catalog

Start by building your benefits inventory in the Benefits tab of your . Here you'll create individual benefits with complete details:

  • Name, description, and image.
  • FMV.
  • Optional code for reporting.
  • Shipping rules and estimated delivery time.
  • Optional variants like size or color.
  • Optional localization.

“Add new benefit” screen in the Dashboard

For each benefit, you specify shipping requirements. Physical items require supporters to provide shipping addresses during checkout; digital benefits do not. You can also restrict shipping to your organization's country — useful when international shipping costs become prohibitive.

You can create benefits at the level (available to all , if the account and subaccount currencies match) or at the subaccount level (available only to that specific subaccount).

Step 2. Add benefits to your campaign

In your settings, choose which benefits to offer supporters and set eligibility requirements. Go to Campaigns > [Your campaign] > Campaign Page > Benefits to configure how benefits appear.

Benefits tab in Campaign Page settings

You can add up to 5 benefits per campaign. Each benefit can have different minimum donation requirements based on frequency. For example:

  • Tote bag: $15 minimum for one-time donations, $10 minimum for monthly recurring.
  • T-shirt: $30 minimum for one-time donations, $20 minimum for monthly recurring.

This flexibility lets you encourage recurring giving while still offering benefits to one-time supporters.

When supporters visit your Campaign Page, they see available benefits based on their selected donation frequency. They’ll see:

  • Benefit images and descriptions.
  • Eligibility requirements for each thank-you gift.
  • A View details link that opens a pop-up window with more information about each benefit.
  • A Donate without thank-you gift option (selected by default).

Benefit details view

Supporters can choose one benefit per donation.

Even if a supporter qualifies for a benefit, they can still choose Donate without thank-you gift so their full donation supports the cause.

If a supporter selects a benefit that requires a higher donation, the system automatically raises their donation to the minimum and shows a message such as “Donation amount increased to $50.”

For physical benefits, supporters provide shipping addresses during checkout. This works alongside your campaign's mailing address settings if you have mailing address collection enabled. Supporters can send benefits to addresses different from their mailing address — helpful for delivery to family members or work addresses.

If you've restricted benefit shipping to your organization's country, supporters must select an address within that country. Those without eligible shipping addresses can decline the benefit and complete their donation without it.

You can configure benefits in the following :

  • Donate Button.
  • Donate Link.
  • Donation Form.
  • Image Card.
  • Message Bar.
  • Popup.
  • QR Code.
  • Sticky Button.

For each element, you can choose which benefit to highlight. Select Match campaign settings to use your campaign's default behavior, or choose a specific benefit name to preset that benefit. When supporters click an element with a preset benefit, that benefit will already be selected when the Campaign Page opens.

The Donation Form element displays benefit options directly within the form, which can make the form taller when multiple benefits are available. Since the form size can change based on the number of benefits, ensure your website layout accommodates these variations — for example, avoid placing text or other content immediately below the form. Always preview your form on your website to confirm it fits well with your page design.

If your campaign has both and Campaign Page enabled, but the Campaign Page includes benefits, elements will redirect supporters to the Campaign Page instead of opening the Checkout Modal.
