How to use Questions to gather post-conversion information from supporters.

Use the Questions feature to gather information from your supporters in Checkout, Fundraisers, and Virtual Terminal.

Creating questions

You can create questions in the Settings area of the Fundraise Up Dashboard. When you add a new question, you include a question code and type, and options for how the question is displayed.


Question types

There are several question types that you can choose from:

Text line

This is a single-line text input field. It is best used for collecting simple responses. This question type includes an option to require a response.

Example: What is your favorite color? Red.

Text box

This is a multi-line text input field. It works best for collecting responses that are formatted as sentences. This question type includes an option to require a response.

Example: What is one idea you have that can change the world? If cities were more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly, we could greatly reduce our carbon emissions.

Choose one option

This question type displays a response set as an array of radio buttons. You can include multiple response options, but a supporter will only be able to make a single selection. This question type is best used for collecting simple, predefined responses. This question type includes an option to require a response.

Example: How would you like your drink? Shaken, Stirred, Muddled.

When displayed as radio buttons, only one of the above options can be selected.

A dropdown is useful for collecting a single response from a list of many options. The Dropdown question type enables you to include multiple responses. This question type includes an option to require a response.

Example: How did you hear about us? Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Web search, Word of mouth.

In the example above, each option is displayed in the dropdown, but only one selection can be made.

Multiple checkboxes

The multiple checkboxes option enables you to predefine and collect multiple simple responses. This question type is useful for collect preference data from supporters. This question type includes an option to require a response.

Example: What toppings would you like on your pizza? Cheese, Peppers, Meatballs, Mushrooms

In the example above, any combination of response options can be selected.

Single checkbox

Use the single checkbox question type to collect a simple, boolean-style response. This question type includes a setting to require a response and a setting to pre-select the option by default.

Example: Opt-in to receive the annual report? True/False

Questions across accounts

Parent accounts can create questions in their main settings that will also be available to subaccounts. Questions belonging to a specific subaccount will be available only for campaigns in that subaccount.

Using Questions

Checkout

You can display one or more questions to supporters in Checkout as a way to collect additional information at the point of donation. When questions are displayed in Checkout, they are shown after the donation has been processed and supporter details are collected. This way, you preserve conversion even if a supporter opts to not respond to questions. Learn more →

Virtual Terminal

When a donation is processed using Virtual Terminal, it is associated with a specific Campaign. If the selected Campaign has the Questions feature enabled for it, the questions will be displayed on the Virtual Terminal page. Learn more →

P2P Fundraisers

When configuring P2P Button or P2P Link Elements components, you can select to include questions to display when a supporter creates their own fundraiser. Learn more →

Exports

Each question can be included as a property in Exports templates. This enables you to output the question response, code, and text in a CSV file. Learn more →

Integrations

The Questions object can be referenced in the mapping rules for many built-in integrations. This way, you can sync Questions properties to properties in connected apps. Learn more →
