Step 1: Stripe

In this step, you will connect your Stripe account to Fundraise Up.

To use Fundraise Up, your needs to connect an active Stripe account that is based in one of the following countries:

Like Fundraise Up, Stripe functions on a transactional fee model. There are no costs to open a Stripe account and no contractual obligations.

If you don’t have a Stripe account

If your organization doesn’t have a Stripe account or you'd like to create a new one for use with Fundraise Up, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Payment methods > Stripe.
  2. Choose one of the following options:
    • Click Set up test account if you want to make test donations first.
    • Click Create new account if you want to start receiving donations.
  3. After creating a new account:
    • To start accepting live donations, click Activate Stripe account and follow Stripe’s instructions.
    • If you’ve set up a test account, you can activate it for live donations later by following the same process.

Setting up a Stripe account is free. You’ll need to submit documentation to comply with Stripe’s verification requirements, similar to other financial institutions.

To ensure your account is fully functional, check out these Stripe document requirements for your country of citizenship. Keep in mind that your organization must be based in one of the countries listed in the table above to create a Stripe account, even if your citizenship is from a different country.

If you have a Stripe account

If your organization already has a Stripe account, visit the Stripe page in the Payment methods section of your Fundraise Up account settings. Select the Connect Stripe account option and follow the prompts to connect the Stripe account.

Your existing Stripe account must be of the Standard type. Learn more about the different Stripe account types.

You must have either the Administrator or Developer role in your organization’s Stripe account in order to connect Stripe to Fundraise Up.

Stripe nonprofit discount

Stripe offers a fee discount to eligible nonprofits. In most cases, eligible nonprofits receive the discounted rate within two weeks of submitting their request. Learn more about eligibility requirements and how to apply for your discount.
