P2P fundraiser guide template

A guide your fundraisers can follow to set up and run their pages.

When someone wants to fundraise for your , they need to know what to do — how to start their page, how to share it, how to thank the people who donate. This article gives you a ready-made guide that covers all of it. Send it to a new fundraiser, post it on your website, or include it in a welcome email.

The template below is written directly to the fundraiser. Fill in your organization's details, remove anything that doesn't match how you've set up your P2P , and it's ready to share.

Before you share it, go through it and:

  • Replace every [Organization Name] with your organization's name.
  • Replace [support email/phone] with your contact details.
  • Check the registration options on your P2P (Elements > [Your P2P Fundraisers Element] > Registration options) and remove sections that describe paths you don't offer:
    • Remove Find your team if Join an existing team is off.
    • Remove Create your team and Manage your team if Start a team fundraiser is off.
  • Check the fundraising occasions on your P2P campaign (P2P campaigns > [Your campaign] > Settings > Fundraising occasions) and remove Who you're honoring if you don't offer In memory or In honor.

Article template

You can raise money for [Organization Name] through your own fundraising page. Share it with friends, family, and anyone else you'd like to ask. Every donation to your page goes to [Organization Name] directly.

This guide covers how to:

  • Set up your page
  • Share it
  • Keep track of donations
  • Thank the people who give
  • Work with your teammates, if you've joined or started a team.

To start, go to the [Organization Name] website and click the button to start a fundraiser. You'll then be asked a short series of questions to build your page. It takes only a few minutes, and you can change your answers later.

The steps below cover everything you might be asked. If something doesn't appear when you sign up, just skip past it — [Organization Name] doesn't always include every step.

Choose how to fundraise

First, you'll be asked how you want to fundraise. You'll see up to three choices:

  • As an individual — your own page, where you raise money on your own.
  • As a team — a team page with a shared goal. After you create your team, you can invite others to fundraise with you.
  • Join an existing team — you fundraise for a team someone else has already started. When you pick this, a list of teams appears next; pick the team you want to fundraise for and continue.

If you've set up a fundraiser here in the past, click Log in at the bottom of the screen to go straight back to it instead of starting a new one.

Add the details for your page

After you've chosen how to fundraise, you'll be asked for the details that go on your page. Each question covers one thing. You can come back and change any of them later.

Why you're fundraising. First, you'll be asked to pick what's prompting you to fundraise — a memorial, a  in someone's honor, a holiday, an event, or any other reason [Organization Name] has set up to choose from. Pick the one that fits your situation. This choice shapes a couple of the questions that come after, so they match your reason for fundraising.

If you joined an existing team, you won't be asked this — your page takes on the same reason the team is fundraising for. You also won't be asked if [Organization Name] already set the reason on the button or link you started from.

Who you're honoring (memorials and tributes only). If your fundraiser is a memorial or a tribute, the next question asks who or what it's dedicated to. Enter that in Name or dedication — usually a person, but it can be a cause or an occasion. The screen already shows a cover, the one [Organization Name] chose for this kind of fundraiser. To use your own instead, click Replace cover, then click Upload image or Add video.

The name and cover show at the top of your page so visitors know what your fundraiser is dedicated to.

Your team's name (As a team only). If you're starting a team, the next question asks for the team's details. Enter a Team name, and optionally add a Team avatar — click Upload image, pick a photo or a logo, and crop it to a square. The image must be at least 160×160 px. Both appear at the top of the team page. You won't be asked this if you're fundraising as an individual or joining an existing team.

Your story. Next, you'll be asked to write a short story about your fundraiser — usually a paragraph or two. If you don't know where to start, put down a few rough sentences and click Rewrite story. Each click gives you a differently built version, so click again if the first result isn't right. You get five rewrites of your story during sign-up. If you'd rather write it later, click Skip — your page then shows the story [Organization Name] prepared, and you can replace it at any time.

Your page title. Once your story is set, you'll be asked to name your page on the Name your page and add a cover screen. A title is already filled in, written from the story you just wrote. Keep it, type your own, or click Rewrite title for a different one. You get five rewrites here as well.

The same screen shows the cover for your page. You start with the one [Organization Name] chose. To use your own instead, click Replace cover, then click Upload image or Add video.

Your fundraising goal. The final detail is how much you'd like to raise. Enter the amount in Goal amount — don't overthink it, you can change it any time. If you'd rather not show a goal on your page at all, check I don't want to set a goal instead.

You can also add a Target date if you'd like to give yourself a deadline. Your page keeps accepting donations after that date, so it's there to motivate you and your , not to stop anything.

If you started a team, you set two amounts on this screen. Team goal is what your whole team raises together. Individual goal is what you raise under your own name. [Organization Name] suggests a starting amount for each, and you can leave either one blank. Goal date applies to both.

If you joined a team, you set one amount. Goal amount is what you aim to raise yourself, separate from the team's goal. Add a Goal date if you want a deadline. Both are optional.

What your donations support. You might be asked to choose a Designation — the specific program or cause your donations go to. Choose one from the dropdown, or type in the search box to find it if the list is long. If a  is already filled in, you can keep it or pick another. You won't see this step if [Organization Name] has already set where donations go, or if you're joining a team.

Sign in to publish your page

The last question asks you to sign in. Signing in is how your fundraiser gets saved to you — every time you come back, you sign in the same way to pick up where you left off. You have two ways to do it:

  • Google or Apple — sign in with an  you already have.
  • Email — enter your email address and [Organization Name] sends you a short code by email. Open your email, copy the code, and paste it back here. Your page publishes once the code is accepted. There's no password to remember.

Once you sign in, your page goes live and starts accepting donations right away. Share the link to your page with friends, family, and anyone else who might want to give — the more people who see your page, the more you can raise.

Everything that follows in this guide is for after your page is live, when you want to change something, share it again, or see how things are going.

Sign in again later

You can come back to your fundraiser any time. There are three ways to sign in again:

  • From your emails. [Organization Name] sends you an email when your page is first created and after every donation. Each one has a button that takes you to your fundraiser — you'll be asked to sign in again to open it.
  • From your fundraising page. If you have the link to your page, open it and click Sign in at the top-right corner.
  • From the [Organization Name] website. Click the same button you used to start your fundraiser, then click Log in at the bottom.

Sign in the same way you signed in the first time — Google, Apple, or email.

Your individual page

If you started a team or joined one, the team page comes first. After that, you choose whether to add an individual page of your own.

Choose how you'll fundraise gives you two options:

  • Team page only — you raise money on the team page. What you bring in counts toward the team total and shows next to your name in the team's list of members.
  • Team and individual pages — you get a page of your own, with your own title, story, and cover. Donations to it count toward the team total too.

Picking Team page only is not final — you can add an individual page whenever you like.

Add an individual page

There are two ways to start:

  • On the team page, click the three dots (⋮) next to Invite member, then click Add individual page.
  • Click Manage this page, open the Individual page tab, then click Add individual page.

Add your personal story opens with a title and a story already written for you. Change as much or as little as you like:

  1. Edit the Page title, or click Rewrite title to have a new one written for you.
  2. Edit the story, or click Rewrite story to have it rewritten.
  3. To use your own cover, click Replace cover, then click Upload image or Add video.
  4. Click Continue.

Your page goes live when you finish. Your name in the team's list of members becomes a link to it, and the donations already credited to you appear on your new page.

A tour of your fundraising page

Once your page is live, take a moment to look around it. Here's what's on it:

  • Title and cover — the headline at the top of your page and the image or video behind it. Both can be changed after your page is live.
  • Donation panel — how much you've raised so far and a Donate button for supporters to give.
  • Share buttons — buttons to share your page on social media, by email, or with a QR code. The more you share, the more your page will raise.
  • Your story — your photo, name, and the story you wrote, so visitors understand who's fundraising and why. If you didn't write a story during setup, or want to change it, you can do that here at any time.
  • Updates — a section where you, as the fundraiser, post messages to keep your supporters in the loop. It's empty to start. Click Write update to add one.
  • Activity feed — a list of donations as they come in, with any comments supporters leave.

You'll also see a Manage this page button. That's how you reach the settings to change anything about your page — your title, story, cover photo, goal, and (for team pages) your team's details.

Share your page

Most donations come from people who already know you, so the more people you put your page in front of, the more it raises. You can share it to Instagram, Facebook, X, or LinkedIn, send it by email, show a QR code, or copy the link and paste it wherever you like. If one of those is missing, [Organization Name] chose not to offer it.

Share to Instagram

Instagram only lets you post from inside its app, so you will need your phone.

  1. Tap Share, then tap Story or Post.
  2. Swipe through the images, choose the one you want, then choose a background for it.
  3. Tap Copy link.
  4. Tap Open Instagram. Your phone's share menu opens — choose Instagram there. Instagram opens with your image ready.
  5. Add your link. In a story, tap the sticker icon, choose the Link sticker, paste your link, and drag it where you want it on the image. In a post, links are not clickable, so paste your link into your bio and point to it in your caption.

The images come from your page — your cover, your title, and the amount you have raised so far.

If you are at a computer, the Instagram button shows a QR code instead. Scan it to carry on from your phone.

Post updates

The Updates section is where you talk back to the people supporting you. Think of it as a place to:

  • Share progress when you hit a milestone — half of your goal, a memorable donation, a big response from social media.
  • Thank everyone collectively for their support, especially after a strong week.
  • Tell the story behind what you're raising money for — what [Organization Name] is doing with the funds, why now, what changes.
  • Mark the end of your fundraiser with a final thank-you when you're done.

Aim to post about once a week while your fundraiser is active. Pages that go quiet tend to lose momentum, whereas pages with regular updates keep bringing fresh attention back to themselves. A good time for your first update is within the first week.

Don't worry about every update being a big announcement. A short note about progress, a thank-you to recent supporters, or a story from [Organization Name] is enough to keep supporters engaged.

To post an update:

  1. On your page, find the Updates section.
  2. Click Write update (if it's your first one) or + Add update (if you've posted before).
  3. Write your message. To include a photo, click Add image and pick one from your device. To include a video instead, click Add video and paste a YouTube or Vimeo link. An update can have one or the other, not both.
  4. Click Send update.

A photo keeps the shape you took it in, so a vertical phone photo stays vertical on your page. To trim it, click the menu icon on the photo and click Crop. Click Delete in the same menu to remove the photo and start again.

Your update appears immediately. Supporters can like and share your updates.

Thank supporters who donate

Every donation appears in your Activity feed as soon as it's made. When you see a new donation, you can post a public thank-you that appears as a reply beneath it on your page.

  1. In the Activity feed, find the donation and click the Like icon (thumbs up) or the Comment icon (speech bubble) below it.
  2. If you clicked Comment, write your thank-you message.
  3. Click Send thank you.

Your comment appears below the 's donation. To change or remove it later, find your reply on your page, click the three dots (⋮) on the right, then click Edit or Remove.

Edit your page

Anything you set up at the start of your fundraiser can be changed later. To make changes, open your page and click Manage this page. That opens an overview of your fundraiser.

To update the main content on your page, click the Edit icon (pencil) at the top of the page. There you can change your title, cover, story, or goal all in one place.

Your page always shows a cover. Until you add your own, it's the one [Organization Name] chose. To change it, click Replace cover, then click Upload image or Add video. For a video, paste a link to a YouTube or Vimeo video. For an image, set the crop and click Done.

Once your own image is in place, click the menu icon on it to reach two actions: Crop reframes it, and Delete removes it and brings back the cover your page started with.

A cover appears across the full width of your page, so a wide image works best. Anything smaller than 500×280 px is too small to use. Below 1200×675 px, you'll see a note that your cover may look blurry on large screens — upload a different image, widen the crop, or keep it as it is.

After you click Save changes, your page updates right away.

Change the language you see

At the bottom of the left-side menu, click the language name and pick another one. This changes the buttons and labels that you see when you manage your fundraiser. It does not change the language that your page appears in for visitors, and it does not translate your title, story, or team name — those stay as you wrote them.

Manage your team

If you started a team, you have extra control over the team itself — its name and image, who's on it, and how everyone's doing.

Update your team name, image, and story

Click the gear icon under the main image, then click the Edit icon (pencil). The edit window opens with the same fields as an individual page, plus three more:

  • Team name — the name of your team, as it appears at the top of the team page.
  • Team avatar — a small picture, such as a logo or a photo, that represents your team. It's cropped to a square and must be at least 160×160 px.
  • Team story — the team's story, in place of your own personal story.

Invite teammates

  1. Open your team page and click Invite member.
  2. Pick how you'd like to invite them:
    • Invite by link — copy the invite link and share it in a text message, an email, on social media, or anywhere else.
    • Invite by email — enter each person's name and email, then click Send invites. They get an email with a link to join your team.

The people you invite show up in your team list once they've signed up, whether or not they add an individual page of their own.

If your page is paused or blocked

[Organization Name] can pause your page while something on it needs to change. A paused page doesn't accept donations, and visitors can't open it. You keep access to it.

You'll see a message at the top of your page explaining what [Organization Name] wants changed. Two things are open to you:

  • Edit page — make the changes, then click Submit for review. Your page goes back to [Organization Name] and stays hidden until they put it online again. Until then, you'll see that your page is under review.
  • Contact organization — write a message and click Send message if you have a question about the pause.

Only [Organization Name] can put your page back online, so sending your changes for review doesn't do it on its own. You'll get an email when your page is live again.

[Organization Name] can also block a page that doesn't follow the fundraising guidelines they've set. You'll see a note on the page telling you that it's blocked. A block is always final.

If an update or a comment is hidden

[Organization Name] can hide an update you posted, a comment someone left with their donation, or a reply you wrote. Hidden content disappears from your page for everyone else. You can still see it when you are signed in.

Only [Organization Name] can put hidden content back on your page. You can delete your own update or reply from the three dots (⋮) menu next to it, but deleting is permanent — nobody can bring it back afterward, including [Organization Name].
