Create and update campaigns in bulk
Create, clone, and update multiple campaigns at once with a CSV file.
When you need to make the same change in dozens of campaigns, or launch many similar campaigns at once, you can do it with one CSV file. Export the campaigns you want to change from the Dashboard or download a template, edit the file in Excel, Google Sheets, or another spreadsheet app, and import it back to your Fundraise Up account.
Bulk import and export work with campaigns that use the Checkout Modal, a Campaign Page, or both. P2P campaigns, Gift Cart catalogs, Pledge campaigns, Tap to Donate campaigns, and Giving Station campaigns are not supported.
Who can import and export campaigns
Organization Administrators, Campaign Administrators, and Configuration Managers can import campaigns. Organization Administrators and Campaign Administrators can export campaigns.
How bulk changes work
Bulk changes use a CSV file. A CSV file is a spreadsheet where each row is one campaign and each column is one campaign setting. You get the file from the Dashboard, edit it, and import it back.
There are two ways to get the file, depending on what you want to do:
- To update or clone campaigns you already have, export them from the Campaigns tab. The export includes only the campaigns that match the filters on the tab, so filter the list first to choose which campaigns to export. You also choose which settings to include. The file contains those campaigns with their current settings.
- To create new campaigns, download a template. The template has a column for each setting you choose and a few example rows instead of your campaigns.
Every campaign has an ID. When you export campaigns, each row gets the ID of its campaign. When you import the file, Fundraise Up uses that ID to find the campaign the row belongs to:
- A row with a campaign ID updates that campaign.
- A row without a campaign ID creates a new campaign.
- A row without a campaign ID, but with the ID of a campaign to clone, creates a clone of that campaign.
If a row has both a campaign ID and the ID of a campaign to clone, Fundraise Up will update the campaign and won't create a clone. Each campaign ID can appear in only one row. If the same ID appears in several rows, none of those rows will be imported.
One file can mix actions. For example, some rows can update existing campaigns, and others can create new ones.
The file doesn't need to describe a whole campaign. Fundraise Up changes only what the file contains. Suppose a setting has no column in the file, or its cell is empty:
- An existing campaign keeps its current value.
- A new campaign gets the default value.
- A clone gets the value of the original campaign.
Before anything changes, you can review every row and fix any problems directly on the import page. You don't need to edit the file and import it again.
Update existing campaigns
Use this when many campaigns need the same change, such as a new logo, a new disclaimer, or an optional mailing address. It takes 3 steps.
Step 1: Export the campaigns
- Go to Campaigns.
- To export only some campaigns, filter the list first, for example by tag or status. The file includes every campaign that matches the filters.
- Click Import/Export and select Export view as CSV.
- Under Available fields, make sure Campaign ID is selected, then select the settings you want to change. Leave out the settings you don't plan to change. Settings without a column in the file stay as they are.
- Click Export. Keep the window open until the file downloads, or you'll lose your progress.
Step 2: Edit the file
- Open the file in a spreadsheet app, such as Excel or Google Sheets.
- Change the values you need, following the rules in “How to fill in values” below. Don't change the campaign IDs.
- Keep each campaign in one row. If the same campaign ID appears in several rows, none of those rows will be imported.
- (Optional) Delete the rows of campaigns that don't need changes.
- Save or download the file as CSV with UTF-8 encoding.
For example, to make the mailing address optional in every exported campaign, set Mailing Address Required to FALSE in every row.
Step 3: Import the file
- Go to Campaigns, click Import/Export, and select Import CSV.
- On the Upload file step, drag your file into the upload area, or click the area and choose the file. Click Continue.
- On the Map columns step, check how the columns of your file match the campaign settings in Fundraise Up:
- On the left, File columns shows the columns from your file.
- On the right, Map to field shows the matching campaign settings in Fundraise Up.
If you didn't rename any columns, the names on the left and on the right will be the same.
- Check the first two rows. They work the other way around: the Fundraise Up setting on the right is fixed, and you choose the column of your file on the left.
- Campaign ID must show your
Campaign IDcolumn. If the column kept its name, it will be selected automatically. - Leave Campaign to clone ID empty. You need it only to clone campaigns.
- Campaign ID must show your
- Check the number next to Unmapped columns. If it's 0, every column of your file will be matched. If it's more than 0, turn on Unmapped columns to show those columns, then choose a setting for each one under Map to field. A column you leave unmapped isn't imported.
- (Optional) To check the values in a column, click its row. The values from your file appear on the right.
- Click Continue.
- If the file has links to images or videos, Fundraise Up will check them. Stay on the page until the check finishes, or you'll lose your progress.
- On the Review import step, the Import action column shows what Fundraise Up will do with each row, based on its campaign ID: To update, To create, To clone, or To skip. Rows marked To skip are not imported.
- If any rows have problems, Errors or Warnings appears next to the search box. Turn it on to show only those rows. A row with an error won't be imported. In a row with a warning, only the value with the warning won't be applied, and the rest of the row will be imported.
- The table can be wider than the screen. Scroll it horizontally to find the cells with errors or warnings.
- To fix a value, click its cell and edit it. After you edit values, you can download the corrected file with Download updated CSV.
- Click Import [number] campaigns.
The import runs in the background, so you can leave the page.
Create new campaigns
Use this when you want to launch many campaigns at once, for example when you move to Fundraise Up from another platform. It takes 3 steps.
Step 1: Download a template
- Go to Campaigns, click Import/Export, and select Import CSV.
- Click Download template.
- Select the settings you want to fill in. Campaign ID is always selected.
- Click Download template.
Step 2: Fill in the file

- Add one row for each new campaign, and leave
Campaign IDempty. - Fill in
Campaign Nameand the settings you need, following the rules in “How to fill in values” below. Any settings you leave empty will have their default values. - To accept donations right away, set
Checkout Modal Enabled,Campaign Page Enabled, or both toTRUE. - Save or download the file as CSV with UTF-8 encoding.
Step 3: Import the file
- Go to Campaigns, click Import/Export, and select Import CSV.

- Check the first two rows. They work the other way around: the Fundraise Up setting on the right is fixed, and you choose the column of your file on the left.
- Campaign ID must show your
Campaign IDcolumn, even though its cells are empty.

Clone campaigns
Use this when you need many clones of an existing campaign, each with a few different settings, such as its own name and designation for each local chapter. It takes 3 steps.
Step 1: Export the campaigns to clone
- Go to Campaigns.
- Filter the list to show the campaigns you want to clone. The file includes every campaign that matches the filters.
- Click Import/Export and select Export view as CSV.
- Under Available fields, make sure Campaign ID is selected, then select Campaign to clone ID and the settings that should be different in the clones. The clones will match the original in every setting you leave out.
- Click Export. Keep the window open until the file downloads, or you'll lose your progress.
Step 2: Edit the file
- Open the file in a spreadsheet app, such as Excel or Google Sheets.
- Add one row for each clone. In each new row, paste the ID of the original campaign into
Campaign to clone ID, and leaveCampaign IDempty. If both IDs are filled in, the row will update the original campaign and won't create a clone. - In each new row, fill in only the settings that should be different in that clone, following the rules in “How to fill in values” below. Everything else will be copied from the original campaign.
- Delete the rows of the original campaigns, unless you also want to update them.
- Save or download the file as CSV with UTF-8 encoding.
Step 3: Import the file
- Go to Campaigns, click Import/Export, and select Import CSV.
- On the Upload file step, drag your file into the upload area, or click the area and choose the file. Click Continue.
- On the Map columns step, check how the columns of your file match the campaign settings in Fundraise Up:

How to fill in values
What you enter in a cell depends on what you want to do:
| To | Enter in the cell |
|---|---|
| Turn a setting on | TRUE |
| Turn a setting off | FALSE |
| Enter several values, such as tags | The values, separated by commas: FY26, Gala |
| Enter a value that has a comma in it | The value in double quotes: "Smith, Jones Fund" |
| Add an image | A link to a JPEG, PNG, or GIF file. Anyone must be able to open the link without signing in. |
| Keep the current value of an existing campaign | Nothing. Leave the cell empty. |
| Keep the value of the original campaign in a clone | Nothing. Leave the cell empty. |
| Use the default value in a new campaign | Nothing. Leave the cell empty. |
| Remove a value | You can't do this in the file. Edit the campaign in the Dashboard. |
Texts have a separate column for each language. For example, Campaign Page Title [en] is the English title, and Campaign Page Title [fr] is the French title. Fill in the column for each language you need.
Tags, Designation IDs, and Question IDs columns, the values you enter replace the current ones. They aren't added to them. Enter all the values the campaign should have, including the current ones you want to keep.If a tag in the file doesn't exist yet, Fundraise Up will create it. New designations and questions can't be created from the file. To add a new one to a campaign, create it in the Dashboard first, then add its ID to the file.
Save the file in CSV format with UTF-8 encoding. Other formats, such as XLSX, can't be imported:
- In Excel, choose CSV UTF-8 when you save the file.
- In Google Sheets, download the file as CSV.
Every file needs a Campaign ID column, even if you only create campaigns. Its cells can be empty.
The file can have up to 5,000 rows, one for each campaign, and up to 1,000 columns. It can't be larger than 20 MB.
Campaigns in subaccounts
If your organization uses subaccounts, you can update and create subaccount campaigns from the parent account. You don't need to switch to each subaccount.
To update subaccount campaigns, export them from the parent account. To export only the campaigns of one subaccount, filter the Campaigns list by Account first. Each campaign has its own ID, so Fundraise Up updates it in the subaccount it belongs to.
To create campaigns in a subaccount, the file needs an Account ID column. A new campaign doesn't have an ID yet, so this column tells Fundraise Up which subaccount to create it in.
To add and fill in the column:
- When you download the template, select Account ID.
- In each row, enter the ID of the subaccount where you want to create the campaign. You can find subaccount IDs in Settings > Subaccounts.
If you leave the cell empty, the campaign will be created in the account you're signed in to.
What you can't change with a file
Some settings can be changed only in the campaign settings. You can't use a file to:
- Enable, disable, or archive a campaign.
- Change the default language of an existing campaign.
- Create designations, designation groups, or questions.
- Choose a default or restricted designation for a frequency.
- Edit impact description texts, tribute card collections, benefits, or campaign emails.
