P2P quick start guide
Get your first P2P campaign live: set it up, invite supporters as fundraisers, and review the pages they create.
Peer-to-peer (P2P) fundraising lets your supporters raise money for your organization. They create individual or team pages, share them with their own networks, and collect donations through the Fundraise Up checkout. Donations, supporter records, and fundraiser activity stay in the account you already use for direct giving.
People often give because someone they trust asks them. A fundraiser's personal story carries your mission into circles your organization may not reach on its own. Each page becomes both a way to raise money and a trusted introduction — turning friends, families, and communities into new supporters who may stay connected beyond their first donation.
This guide walks you through your first P2P campaign: how to set it up, invite supporters, and review what comes in. It covers DIY fundraising — supporter-led, occasion-based pages that individuals and teams run themselves — not organization-run events such as walks, rides, or races.
What you control
A fundraiser writes their own page — the story, the photo, the goal they're aiming for. You manage everything else:
- Branding and customization. P2P uses Fundraise Up's standardized, conversion-focused experience. You can customize P2P Elements and configure registration paths, fundraising occasions, page defaults, goal amounts and dates, designations, your logo, footer legal information, and campaign checkout settings.
- Moderation. AI reviews fundraiser titles, stories, and cover images, and flags anything that looks off for your team to review.
- Localization. A campaign can run in several languages. Fundraise Up translates interface texts; you supply the translations for your own content. What fundraisers write stays in the language they wrote it in.
- Dashboard management. You can create and edit individual and team fundraiser pages, review moderation results, pause pages, add team members, view donations and emails, and organize the fundraiser list with filters and saved views.
- Offline donations. You can add offline amounts and donation counts through your Dashboard so they appear in fundraiser totals. Fundraisers can't add offline donations themselves.
- Integrations and exports. Donations made through P2P pages sync through supported CRM integrations with fundraiser attribution. Fundraiser and team data is also available through P2P exports.
Peer-to-peer fundraising in the Dashboard
Peer-to-peer fundraising has two sections in the Dashboard.
- P2P campaigns, where you create and configure campaigns.
- P2P fundraisers, where you create, track, review, edit, and pause fundraiser pages.
A P2P campaign belongs to the account where you create it. If your organization runs subaccounts, switch to the account that should own the campaign before you start.
Campaigns and page defaults don't carry over between accounts. A subaccount can use designations and fundraiser questions from its parent account, but it can't edit them.
Step 1. Launch your first campaign
Set up a campaign from your Dashboard. A campaign sets the rules every fundraiser page inherits:
- Which registration paths you offer: an individual page, a new team, or a place on an existing team.
- The fundraising occasions supporters choose from, such as In honor, In memory, or occasions your organization creates.
- A pre-filled goal amount and target date.
- Where donations are designated, and the checkout supporters see when they give
Once your campaign exists, connect it to your audience with a P2P Fundraiser Button or Link, or let supporters start fundraising from a Campaign Page. You can also add a P2P Fundraiser Gallery, P2P Top Fundraisers leaderboard, Goal Meter, Recent Donations, or Stat Counter to your website.
Step 2. Invite your supporters
Share your campaign link so supporters can register as fundraisers. Invite them to lead with their personal connection: why your mission matters to them, and why they are asking their network to join them.
Sign-up takes a few minutes:
- They choose how to fundraise: on their own, by starting a team, or by joining one.
- They write their page title, story, and goal. AI can rewrite the story draft for them.
- They sign in with Google or a one-time email code to publish. Sign in with Apple is also available when your organization has connected an Apple developer account.
Their page goes live as soon as they sign in and takes donations right away.
Step 3. Review and manage fundraisers
Every new fundraiser page goes live immediately and appears in the Dashboard with a moderation status. AI moderation flags questionable content in the title, story, or cover image, and your team makes the final call. Moderation doesn't block publication automatically.
You can also create fundraiser pages directly from your Dashboard, rather than waiting for supporters to sign up themselves.
Step 4. Support your fundraisers
Once their page is live, fundraisers manage everything in Fundraiser Portal. There they track progress, edit the page, share it, post updates, and thank the supporters who give.
Encourage them to post updates, mark milestones, and thank supporters personally. Give them a walkthrough of their own as well: fill in your organization's details in the template below, then send it to every new fundraiser.
