Run a Giving Station
Set up a tablet, connect a reader, and launch a Giving Station at your venue.
Before your first event
Complete these steps once. After that, open the app, log in, and launch the station.
Install the app and log in
- Open the app. If you're using a tablet, the app will open in Giving Station mode automatically.
- Tap Get started, and allow location access when prompted — Stripe requires it to process payments. We do not track the location of your device.
- Log in with your Fundraise Up email and password, or tap Use single-sign on (SSO) and follow your organization's sign-in.
If your organization requires two-factor authentication, enter the 6-digit code after you log in.
Connect a card reader
If your tablet does not have built-in NFC, connect an external Stripe card reader before your first event. You do this once. How you set it up depends on whether the reader has its own screen.
A tablet with built-in NFC does not need a card reader, but you can still connect one if you prefer.
Readers without a screen
Readers without a screen, such as the Stripe Reader M2, connect over Bluetooth.
- Turn the reader on and keep it next to the tablet.
- At the top of the campaign list, tap Set up reader.
- On the Payment method screen, select the reader under Available readers. Connect it here, in the app — not from the tablet's Bluetooth settings.
If the reader does not appear, it may have gone to sleep — press its power button and try again.
Readers with a screen
Readers with a screen, such as the Stripe Reader S700, connect over Wi-Fi. You also need to register it in your Stripe Dashboard.
- Turn the reader on.
- In the reader's settings, connect it to a Wi-Fi network.
- Once it’s online, the reader shows a pairing code. In your Stripe Dashboard, go to Terminal > Readers, then click Register reader.
- Enter the pairing code, then click Next.
- Enter the Reader name and choose your organization's location. If you do not have a location yet, create it in your Tap to Donate settings first.
- Click Register.
The reader then appears under Terminal > Readers as online.
You need to register the reader only once before your first event.
At the event
Open the app and sign in if you are not already. The Active campaigns list shows the campaigns you can select for the event.
- Search by name or ID. If the list is empty, or you do not know which campaign to select, contact your supervisor.
- Tap the campaign name.
- Tap Launch Giving Station. If your tablet does not have built-in NFC and the external card reader is disconnected, reconnect it before you continue.
- Set a 4-digit operator PIN. Remember it. You enter it later to return to the app — without it, the tablet stays locked in donation mode.
- Tap Set up operator PIN.
The tablet enters the donor-facing mode and is ready for supporters.
What supporters see
With the station running, a supporter needs no assistance and can give on their own. To donate, the supporter:
- Enters an amount, and chooses a frequency and a designation if the campaign offers them.
- Enters their personal details, or taps Skip to give without them.
- Chooses whether to cover the transaction costs.
- Taps a card, phone, or watch on the reader to pay.
- Sees a thank-you screen with a QR code to scan for a receipt and to manage the donation in the Donor Portal.
The station then returns to the start screen for the next supporter — when the supporter taps Start new donation, or after a period without activity.
Supporters cannot open any other part of the app.
Exit the station
To leave the donor-facing mode and return to your campaigns:
- Press and hold the bottom-right corner of the screen for 3 seconds.
- Enter the operator PIN.
- Tap Exit Giving Station.
A station keeps running until you exit, whether that is a few hours or several days. Each time you launch, you set a new PIN — the previous one no longer works.
Handle a failed payment
If a payment is declined, ask the supporter to try a different card or payment method. If the reader disconnects, reconnect it from the campaign list. If the internet connection drops during a payment, the card is not charged — the supporter can tap again once the connection returns.
Review past donations
Before you launch a station or after you exit one, you can review the donations it has collected. Switch to the Donations tab at the bottom of the screen.
To find a specific donation, filter the list by date, campaign, or supporter.
Tap any donation to open its full details, including the amount, supporter, campaign, designation, payment method, and status. From there, you can show the receipt again or update the supporter's contact details. You cannot refund or cancel a completed donation from the app.
Show a receipt again
A supporter may ask for their receipt after they finish. Open the donation, then tap Show receipt. The app displays a QR code. Ask the supporter to scan it with their phone camera to get access to their Donor Portal, where they can view and download the receipt.
Update a supporter's contact details
You can correct a supporter's details or add information they skipped.
- Open the donation, then tap Edit personal information.
- Update the supporter's first name, last name, email, or phone number.
- Tap Save.
