EPS
Learn how to enable EPS payment method for your account in Fundraise Up.
Your organization can accept one-time donations through EPS, a bank-redirect payment method used in Austria. Supporters authorize each payment directly in their online banking. EPS donations are made in EUR and processed through Stripe.
| Supporter location | Austria, determined by IP address |
|---|---|
| Donations | One-time only |
| Currency | EUR |
| Refund window | 180 days |
| Available in | Checkout Modal, Campaign Pages, Gift Cart |
| Organization eligibility | A Stripe account in a country where Stripe supports EPS (view the list on the Stripe website) |
When EPS appears
Supporters see EPS among the payment options when all of these conditions are met:
- EPS is enabled for your organization.
- The donation currency is EUR.
- The supporter's IP address is in Austria.
- The supporter is making a one-time donation.
In Gift Cart, EPS appears only when every gift in the cart is a one-time donation.
EPS is not available in Virtual Terminal. Each payment must be authorized by the supporter in their online banking, so your team cannot process an EPS donation on a supporter's behalf.
How supporters pay with EPS
At checkout, EPS appears as EPS Überweisung. After the supporter selects it, checkout shows a bank-selection screen. The supporter chooses their bank from the list, confirms their name, and continues. Checkout then redirects them to their bank's online banking, where they authorize the payment. Once they authorize it, they return to checkout and reach the confirmation screen.
The list covers Austrian banks only, so supporters without an Austrian bank account cannot complete an EPS payment.
If the payment fails or the supporter cancels, they return to the payment method selection screen, where an error message explains what happened. They can then try again or choose another payment method.
How to enable EPS
To enable EPS, turn it on in the Fundraise Up Dashboard. Stripe then verifies that your organization meets its EPS requirements before EPS becomes available to supporters.
- Go to Settings > Payment methods.
- Click EPS, then click Enable EPS.
After you enable EPS, Stripe checks that your organization meets its EPS requirements. Until verification completes, EPS stays pending and supporters do not see it at checkout.
Refunds
Donations made using EPS can be refunded up to 180 days after the original donation date. Both full and partial refunds are supported.
To refund an EPS donation:
- Go to Donations.
- Click the donation to open its details page.
- Click Refund donation in the top-right corner of the page.
After 180 days, the Refund donation button becomes unavailable for EPS donations.
