MobilePay
Learn how to enable MobilePay for your account in Fundraise Up.
Your organization can accept one-time donations through MobilePay, a mobile payment app used in Denmark and Finland. MobilePay donations are processed through Stripe. Supporters approve each payment in the MobilePay app on their phone.
| Supporter location | Denmark and Finland, determined by IP address |
|---|---|
| Donations | One-time only |
| Currency | DKK, EUR, NOK, SEK |
| Refunds | Full refunds, with no time limit |
| Available in | Checkout Modal, Campaign Pages, Gift Cart |
| Organization eligibility | A Stripe account in a country where Stripe supports MobilePay (view the list on the Stripe website) |
When MobilePay appears
Supporters see MobilePay among the payment options when all of these conditions are met:
- MobilePay is enabled for your organization.
- The donation currency is DKK, EUR, NOK, or SEK.
- The supporter's IP address is in Denmark or Finland.
- The donation frequency is one-time.
MobilePay supports one-time donations only. For that reason, supporters cannot choose it when they change the payment method on a recurring plan or convert a one-time donation into a recurring one, and MobilePay is not saved to their Donor Portal for future use.
In Gift Cart, MobilePay appears only when every gift in the cart is a one-time donation.
MobilePay is not available in Virtual Terminal. Each payment must be approved by the supporter in the MobilePay app, so your team cannot process a MobilePay donation on a supporter's behalf.
How supporters pay with MobilePay
After the supporter selects MobilePay and confirms the donation, the payment is approved in the MobilePay app. How the supporter reaches the app depends on the device they donate from.
On a mobile device, checkout redirects the supporter to the MobilePay app, where they approve the payment and return to checkout.
On desktop, the supporter enters the phone number linked to their MobilePay account and then approves the payment in the MobilePay app on their phone.
The supporter has 5 minutes to approve the payment. After that, the payment expires, and the supporter must start again or choose another payment method.
If the payment fails, the supporter cancels it, or it expires, they see an error message and can choose another payment method. They cannot return to earlier steps of checkout.
How to enable MobilePay
You enable MobilePay in two separate places: your Stripe account and the Fundraise Up Dashboard.
Step 1: Activate MobilePay in Stripe
- Log in to your Stripe dashboard.
- Go to Settings > Payments > Payment methods.
- Locate MobilePay and click Enable.
Stripe checks that your organization meets its MobilePay requirements. Until verification completes, MobilePay stays pending in Stripe, and supporters do not see it at checkout.
Step 2: Enable MobilePay in Fundraise Up
- Log in to your Fundraise Up Dashboard.
- Go to Settings > Payment methods.
- Click MobilePay, then click Enable MobilePay.
Until your organization connects a Stripe account, Enable MobilePay is unavailable.
To stop accepting MobilePay donations, return to the same page and click Disable MobilePay.
Subaccounts that use the Stripe account of their parent organization inherit this setting. A subaccount has no separate MobilePay setting.
Refunds
Donations made using MobilePay can be refunded in full, with no time limit. Partial refunds are not supported.
To refund a MobilePay donation:
- Go to Donations.
- Click the donation to open its details page.
- Click Refund donation in the top-right corner of the page.
Disputes
Stripe processes MobilePay as a card transaction, using the card details held in the supporter's MobilePay account. Supporters can therefore dispute a MobilePay donation with their card issuer, just as they can dispute a card donation. You can submit evidence to contest the dispute.
