Wero
Learn how to enable Wero for your account in Fundraise Up.
Your organization can accept donations through Wero, a bank-transfer payment method used in Europe. With this method, supporters can donate from their bank account instead of entering card details.

When Wero appears
Supporters see Wero among the payment options when all of these conditions are met:
- Wero is enabled for your organization.
- The donation currency is EUR.
- The supporter’s IP address is in Belgium, France, or Germany.
- The supporter is making a one-time donation.
To complete the payment, the supporter needs a Wero account with their bank account connected to it. A supporter who does not have one can choose another payment method in checkout.
Wero covers one-time donations only. Supporters cannot choose it for a recurring plan, and they cannot use it when they convert a one-time donation into a recurring plan. Fundraise Up does not save Wero in the Donor Portal either, so supporters select it again on each donation.
In Gift Cart, Wero appears only when every gift in the cart is a one-time donation.
Wero is not available in Virtual Terminal. Each payment must be approved by the supporter in the Wero app, so your team cannot process a Wero donation on a supporter’s behalf.
How supporters pay with Wero
After the supporter selects Wero and confirms the donation, checkout redirects them to a Wero authentication page. On desktop, they scan the QR code on that page with their phone to open the Wero app, and approve the payment there. On a mobile device, the Wero app opens directly.
The payment usually completes in under 10 seconds. The supporter then returns to checkout and reaches the confirmation screen.
If the payment fails, the supporter cancels it, or the authorization times out, they see an error message and can choose another payment method. They cannot return to earlier steps of checkout.
How to enable Wero
Wero takes two steps to set up. Your organization first activates it in its own Stripe account, then turns it on in the Fundraise Up Dashboard.
Step 1: Activate Wero in Stripe
- Log in to your Stripe dashboard.
- Go to Settings > Payments > Payment methods.
- Locate Wero and click Enable.
Stripe gives Wero to a limited number of accounts, so it might not appear on that page yet. In that case, request access on the Stripe Wero page.
Step 2: Enable Wero in Fundraise Up
- Log in to your Fundraise Up Dashboard.
- Go to Settings > Payment methods.
- Click Wero, then click Enable Wero.
Until your organization connects a Stripe account, Enable Wero is unavailable.
To stop accepting Wero donations, return to the same page, open the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, click Disable Wero, and confirm the change.
Subaccounts that use the Stripe account of their parent organization inherit this setting.
Refunds
Donations made using Wero can be refunded in full, up to 730 days after the original donation date. Partial refunds are not supported.
To refund a Wero donation:
- Go to Donations.
- Click the donation to open its details page.
- Click Refund donation in the top-right corner of the page.
Disputes
Wero does not support disputes. A supporter cannot dispute a Wero donation with their bank, so no funds can be taken back from your organization that way. A supporter who wants their donation back has to ask your organization for a refund.
